205: Katherine's will Reading Gets under Way!

Its morning in Genoa City and a new day begins.

The Chancellor Mansion, Phillips Room

Phillip opens his eyes as the sun hits them coming in from the window. He lays there for a minute and thinks of last nights events. From Scotty being attacked, from hitting lines of coke at the hospital with Miss Rue and continuing to hide his homosexual tendencies from his family. Phillip feels lost and confused. He wonders what is happening to him. His mind then races back to where Cane held him hostage and Cane began to inject Phillip with Cocaine. He gets up from the bed and looks out his window. He sees the drive has been decorated for the arriving guest of Katherine’s will reading. He takes a sigh and doesn’t feel like partaking in this event especially with all the people that will arrive. He does think about Miss Rue and the satisfaction he receives from her. He begins to get aroused.

“No Phillip you have to stop this.” He says in his mind.

“I have to get my act together. Last night was a close call. I don’t want my family to know I’m using drugs and sleeping with a tranny. That’s the last thing this family needs.”

Meanwhile Down stairs the doorbell rings and Esther goes to greet whomever it is.

She opens the door and sees Victoria.
Esther: Victoria, well I didn’t think you were on the guest list.
Victoria: I’m not I’m just here to see Chance.
Esther: He hasn’t come down for the day yet.

Esther ushers Victoria in, smile disappearing from Esther’s face.
Victoria turns to Esther.

Victoria: Look I know you are still upset about what happened with Chloe.
Esther: No, I’m upset you killed my grandchild and got away with it because your last name is Newman.
Victoria: I never meant for any of that to happen. Chloe was sleeping with my husband. Things kind of got out of control.
Esther: I don’t want to talk about this with you Victoria. You can see Chance for yourself. Do you know what bedroom it is?
Victoria: I do thanks.

Victoria heads up the stairs as Esther watches with anger.

Esther: Damn Newman’s. One of these days Victoria is going to pay for throwing my daughter down a flight of stairs causing her to lose her unborn child. My poor Chloe.

Karynn walks down the stairs and notices Esther’s evil eye.

Karynn: Essie honey what is going on you look upset.
Esther: Oh it’s those damned Newman’s who think they can get away with whatever they want. Karynn I sware on my life I am going to make Victoria pay for killing my grandchild.

Victoria arrives at Chance’s door but she hears him calling out Eden’s name.
She opens the door and can see Chance still in bed having a bad dream.
She goes over to the bed and sits softly. She wipes the sweat of his forehead and calls out his name to try and awaken him. In Chance’s dream, he remembers the look on Eden’s face as the terrorist drag her away and Chance is unable to do anything.

Chance: I’m so sorry Eden.” He repeats.

Victoria caresses his face and Chance slowly begins to wake up. His vision is blurred at first but
he sees a woman sitting on his bed mind slowly turning on and warming up like a computer.

Chance: Eden?

His vision clears as Victoria responds

Victoria: No, It’s me Vic. I’m sorry.
Chance: No no don’t be. I was having another nightmare about Eden.
Victoria: This situation is really bothering you. Have you sought help Chance?
Chance: No. I just want to go back and find her. If I go to my superiors and tell them I have pstd that will lower my chances on going back to the middle east to find Eden.
Victoria: You really care for her huh?
She looks away.
Chance: Yes, I care for her. I was supposed to protect her and I let her down. It eats away at me.
Victoria: That’s why I’m here. To check up on you. I haven’t heard from you in a few days...

Chance sitting up in the bed.

Chance: I was in Chicago with my mom dealing with some extreme stuff. Karynn’s brother died and that was a lot to get through. Then we met Karynn’s daughter named Kitten.
Victoria: Kitten? What kind of name is that?
Chance: It’s crazy I know. Thank you for coming by to check up on me. How are things with you?
Victoria: Just getting ready for this custody battle with JT. I understand Mackenzie will be the one officiating the will reading.
Chance: Yes, Katherine made her the executor. Well it was Brock but he recently passed so now it will fall on Mac.
Victoria: Good because I was hoping to speak to her and get her to convince JT that Reed needs his mother. I need my son.
Chance: I do hope it works out for you. You deserve your son… Ahh let me go brush my teeth I can smell my own morning breath and I’ll get these crusties out my eyes. Give me a moment.
Victoria: Yes sure.

Chance gets out his bed wearing boxer briefs and Victoria takes notice of Chance’s six pack and thick thighs, she also gets a glimpse of his package. She’s a little impressed yet shy and looks away from Chance.
Chance looks down and realizes he has morning wood.

Chance: I’m sorry Victoria. It’s a man thing.  First thing in the morning, you wouldn’t understand.
Victoria: I know Chance. I’m not new on how the male anatomy works.

She says chuckling.
He wraps a towel around him and heads to the bathroom.
Victoria smiles and sits in a chair as she waits for Chance.

Downstairs

Karynn: Come outside with me while I have smoke. I’ve never seen you so upset.

Karynn pulls out one of her Virginia Slims as Esther follows her outside.
Karynn lights up her cigarette.

Karynn: They sure did do a good job restoring the mansion.
Esther: Yes they did after you burned it down trying to grill hot dogs using a bonfire and a buggy. I could have made you some hot dogs that day Karynn.
Karynn: Oh never mind about that Essie. I was drunken that day. Just enjoying myself. Now let’s talk about you and this Newman person what happened?
Esther: Billy and Victoria were married but she was injured in an explosion and went away to have her face reconstructed. She was gone for so long that my daughter Chloe and Billy ended up back together. They share a child. When Vickie came back in town she caught Chloe and Billy in bed together. Vickie ended up throwing my daughter down a flight of stairs. After that we found out she was pregnant but lost the baby due to the fall. Little Miss Newman got away with the crime due to her last name. I swear Karynn one day, somehow, I will make her pay.
Karynn: Newman huh? Sounds like a name I need to know around here.
Esther: They think they own everything and everyone in this town.
Karynn: Was my sister found of the Newman’s?
Esther: Oh yes. The patriarch Victor was very close to Katherine. In fact, Victor is kind of holding Chancellor Inc. In case anything happened to Mrs. C, Victor was to take on the management of the company until the will was read.
Karynn: Interesting. And today is the  reading so everything could change.
Esther: I don’t know I guess it’s possible. We’ll just have to wait and see what Mrs. C had in store for us. I can’t believe it’s taking this long to get to the reading. So much has happened since Mrs. C. died. I don’t even think the investigation is closed on her death.
Karynn: Investigation?
Esther: Paul was investigating her death. And the way Tucker died.
Karynn: All good information. So, there may have been foul play surrounding my sister’s death?
Esther: Well I’m not sure. She died of a stroke. I don’t see foul play in that.
Karynn: Maybe not but if her death is part of an ongoing investigation it’s worth looking into.
Esther: Well I’m glad to see you got your mind elsewhere rather than on you’re brother Karl.
Karynn: I miss my brother dearly. Everything I do is for him. In his good name. Just as long as my slutty daughter stays away from here.
Esther: And that ex-husband of yours. He gives me the creeps.
Karynn: Oh Garret. Ugh, don’t remind me.

Karynn ashes out her cigarette.

Karynn: Do you think my sister left you anything?
Esther: I haven’t really thought about it to be honest. Do you think Mrs. C left you anything?
Karynn: Essie I hope and pray but I doubt it. I haven’t spoken to Kassie since she left home when me and Karl were little. I never forgave her for that. Leaving me there to be abused by our father. She knew about it and left me anyway. That hurt me so bad.
Esther: Well I should go in and make sure everything is ready for the guest.
Karynn: You know Essie, I’ll crack open a beer and give you a hand.

Esther smiles.

Esther: I’d appreciate that.
Karynn follows Esther inside the mansion.

The role of Mac is now being played by Jodie O’ Keefe

Mac descends the stairs just as Esther and Karynn walk into the foyer from outside. She looks out the window and sees the first guest has arrived.

Mac: The first guest has arrived.
Esther: I was just about to make sure everything was ready Makenzie. Karynn here was going to help.
Karynn: Who’s here Mac?
Mac: Not sure yet.

She says finishing her way down the rest of the steps.

Karynn: How are you holding up honey?
Mac: It’s a lot. From my dad’s sudden death to this will reading, I’m trying to keep it together. I’m just thankful you’re here Karynn. It’s like a piece of grandma still lives on within you.

Karynn has a tear form in her eyes. She extends her arms to give Mac a hug. They embrace.
Esther smiles at the nice scene.

Esther: Finally, some happy moments. So much death and sadness has been surrounding this family lately.
Mac: You need anything Karynn you let me know.

Nina stands at the stairwell having been watching the sweet embraces and kind words being exchanged.

Nina: That’s right Karynn. Get in where you can fit in. This is all an act. You’re only here for the money.

All three women turn to look at Nina standing on the staircase with on hand on her hip.

Karynn: Nina one thing I can say about you is-
Esther: Karynn please don’t, I don’t think this is the right time.
Karynn: No no Essie. I’m going to be a lady. I’m going to give chubbs here some kind words.

Nina rolls her eyes at Karynn’s fat joke.

Karynn: Nina what I like about you and believe me there isn’t much, is that you tell the truth. Yes, I am here for the money. I have not lied about that. I don’t get why you are here. I’m blood and you’re not. Now it’s not Christmas yet, don’t be a Grinch today. Tell you what after this is over with we’ll look up a psychiatrist. I really do think some anti-depressants would do you a world of good. No wonder Phillip doesn’t want to be with you Naggy Nina.

Phillip comes down the stairs having heard Karynn’s last remark

Phillip: Karynn that’s uncalled for.
Karynn: Your right my darling. My apologies. I haven’t had enough beer yet I’m on edge.
Mac: Ok Karynn go get that beer, I don’t want any drama today, this day is my grandma about Katherine Chancellor.
Karynn: And the things she left us.

Everyone looks at Karynn.

Karynn: Why is everyone looking at me? I know deep down everyone that is here and will be here has thought about what did my sister leave for them. I’m not the only one. I’m here for the payout.
Nina: If there is one for you.
Karynn: Right back at you Nags.
Mac: Enough damn it! This is giving me a headache. Let’s get this show on the road.
Karynn: My kind of woman.

Mac walks over to a podium that sits in front of the guest seating. She begins to unseal the large envelope which contains the contents of Katherines Will.
She begins to skim it over.

Mac: Intresting…

  1. Okay, this is the start of something cool.

The will reading is finally coming. I'm curious to know if Karynn gets anything from Kay. Could end up being a very dramatic turn of events for everyone. Karynn and Nina's back and forth was cute, and Philip standing up for Nina as always. Good stuff there.

I like your new focus. It helps keep everything on track.

Victoria and Chance. She fights the urges she has for him hard, as she always has. Vic was never very in touch with that side of herself, so I can see her fighting it. Chance's dreams are haunting him, and I'm sure it'll cause them some tension down the road.

I also see the battle for custody is going to start heating up for Mac and Vic. Good time to remind us what went down for readers coming into the story midway! You did that effectively and reminded me of some things I'd missed.

    Good, solid, focused episode!
