186: Roxanne's Cry for HELP!

 City Jail
Roxanne and Devon sit across from one another.

Roxanne: Devon I really need your help. I have no one else to turn to.
Devon: After you had an emotional affair with my cousin Nate now you want my help? You played me for a fool for months and now you want me to help you.
Roxanne: Devon I am very sorry for hurting you. I did love you.
Devon: Then why did you run to the arms of another man?
Roxanne: I just became so attracted to Nate. We became good friends and over time I became attracted to him.  He  told me about what he did regarding Moses paternity.
Devon: And all that time you didn’t tell me or anyone the truth about who Moses real father was. It could have saved my dad from being shot point blank in the chest by how own brother. Your beloved Nate was mowed down by Malcolm’s car due to the truth coming out. If you would have just said something just maybe all of this could have been prevented.
Roxanne: Devon I’m sorry. I thought I was helping Nate. I was that person he could talk too. He felt very guilty over it for months.
Devon: That guilt didn’t prevent Malcolm from shooting his own brother in the chest. Now Moses is gone and we have no idea where they are according to Paul. But yet here you sit and ask me for help.
Roxanne: You’re making feel  like shit.
Devon: Good! After what you did to me and my family you should. I had a feeling when you called you wanted me to bail you out so I took the-
Roxanne: No Devon the bail money isn’t the issue. It’s the anger management class. I’m not feeling that. I’m not angry.
Devon: Before I was cut off, thank you by the way for that, I was going to say there is nothing I can do for you Roxanne. You must take that anger management class, the judge is holding firm on that.
Roxanne: But you are a Chancellor. Surely that name can make something happen.
Devon: You’re really starting to disgust me Roxanne.  You attack the woman that wants to be with Nate, Hillary had a thing with him in college when all the time you had a good man in your corner. Now you have Nate, who is in a body cast I might add.
Roxanne: Thanks for your help Devon.

She rolls her eyes at him and gets up to let the guard know she is ready to go back to her cell.

Devon: Roxanne there really isn’t anything I can do. You must take that class.
Roxanne: Yea sure Devon, whatever,… I want you to know that Nate and I never slept together. I did that for you.
Devon: Why though? You seemed to have done everything else with him. Why stop at sex for me?
Roxanne: I respected you and could not hurt you that way. The only thing I did was lust for Nate. No sex.
Devon: But hugging and kissing him though right?
Roxanne: Sometimes.
Devon: They say every dog has their day.
Roxanne: Excuse me? I know you just didn’t call me a dog!
Devon: Get the help you need Roxanne. And please don’t call me for help in the future. The answer will be no.
Roxanne: Go to hell Devon!
Devon: Go to anger management class Roxanne.

Devon leaves the room in frustration.
Roxanne is escorted back to her cell she’s now sharing with Sister Patterson. Tears roll down her face.

Spencer’s Apt

Leslie and Spencer continue their conversation about Roxanne.

Leslie: The only thing I want to do is help our daughter.
Spencer: Roxanne won’t let us.
Leslie: Well I really do think she needs that anger management class. She is an angry young woman.
Spencer: Her anger stems from us being her parents. She’s embarrassed and disappointed. She blames us for ruining her budding singing career.
Leslie: How do you know all of this?
Spencer: Roxanne expressed all of this when I just came from down there trying to let her know you will pay her bail as long as she takes those classes. But she is so focused on Nate.
Leslie: Do you think it’s an obsession?
Spencer: No, she just loves him but he got her half-sister pregnant.
Leslie: A mess.
Spencer: I agree. Listen I have to get going to work now. Gina said the place is booked solid.
Leslie: Thank you for trying Spencer.
Spencer: By the way, you mentioned you’re with Neil now?
Leslie: Yes and what of it?
Spencer: I don’t understand how you can be with a man who is in a coma and from what I hear may not be able to walk. I got three legs Les. You know this.
Leslie: Three?
Spencer: You know which one I’m talking about. The one that hangs down to my knee caps.
Leslie: You wish. Bye Spencer. I’ll tell Neil you send your best. After I meet with Rafe about Roxanne that’s where I’m headed next.

Leslie leaves his apartment.

Spencer: I need some action and soon.

Spencer grabs his chef hat and leaves his place to get to work.

Devon and Abby pull up to Gina’s Italian Bistro, Devon puts the car in park.
Abby looks at him and can sense he is upset about something.

Abby: You haven’t said a word since you picked me up. Was it Roxanne?
Devon: To be honest I don’t want to talk about Roxanne. I should have never went over there to see her.
Abby: I’m very sorry to hear that. Let’s just go inside and have a great meal and talk. In fact I set up a little surprise for you.

Devon looks at her, smile forming on his face.

Devon: A surprise for me?
Abby: Yes. Something I think will cheer you up.
Devon: I appreciate that.

He leans in and gives her a peck on the lips. They get out Devon’s white Beemer and walk inside Gina’s.

GC Memorial Hospital, Olivia’s office
Olivia takes a seat behind her desk, picks up the phone and dials some numbers. On the other end she hears:

“Hello?”
Olivia: Dru it’s me Liv. I have some great news.
Dru: Is it about Neil?
Olivia: No I’m sorry. I have not heard much on Neil. It’s about Nathan.
Dru: What about my nephew? I could use some good news, it’s been so depressive here with Lily and the twins missing.
Olivia: That’s why I called, I figured this family could use some good news.
Dru: Well spit it out girl, I ain’t got all day my stories about to come on.
Olivia: Nate is coming out his coma
Dru: Liv that’s wonderful.
Olivia: I figure you would come over to the hospital, and bring Lily, maybe this will take her mind off her twins.
Dru: Maybe. I know I for one need a change of atmosphere and I want to check on Neil.
Olivia: Ok I’ll go tell Nate  I have a surprise for him. He does not know you are alive and all that good stuff.
Dru: Neil doesn’t either. Maybe if he hears my voice, it may be what he needs to wake from his coma.
Olivia: A great idea. Hillary did the same thing with Nate.
Dru: Girl I’ve been gone for awhile I don’t know a Hillary.
Olivia chuckles: Get over here sis and I’ll fill you in.

They hang up.

 Brentwood Park
Leslie and Rafe walk around the park on this hot, sunny, late summer day.

Rafe: It’s a beautiful day.
Leslie: It is. I am so glad summer is almost over with. I can’t stand this heat. Sweats out my hair.
Rafe: I don’t know anything about that.
Leslie: You’re right. It’s a black woman’s thang.
Rafe: So what’s up, I was working on Victoria’s custody case when you called and said you wanted to talk.
Leslie: Thank you for meeting me. I’m just so confused about Roxanne.
Rafe: Did she take that anger management class yet?
Leslie: That’s just it she refuses to. Spencer and I really think she needs too. My daughter needs help she’s an angry person.
Rafe: Without taking that class Les, the judge will not agree to let her out of jail.
Leslie: I hate that she is locked up like this.
Rafe: Les, you didn’t attack Hillary, Roxanne did. She did this to herself. Maybe this is why she needs anger management. This is their 2nd altercation in as little as a few weeks. Roxanne is lucky Hillary didn’t file assault charges at that time because this would have been Roxanne’s second strike.
Les: I know Rafe, you’re right. I just don’t know what to do in order to reach her. Convince her of taking these classes.
Rafe: Sometimes you got to play hard ball. I’m sure when Roxanne is tired of being in a cell, she’ll cave and take those classes.
Les: I guess you are right. Being a mother is so new to me. I don’t know to go about doing this job.
Rafe: You’ll get it. And you are trying, I do see that. By the way how is Neil?
Les: I am on my way to see him now. I hope he is a woke from his coma. We are just waiting for Dr. Whitfield to tell us how much damage the bullet did to Neil.
Rafe: Good luck and it was good seeing you friend.

They hug.

Leslie: I’m glad we remained friends after that whole ordeal with Victor’s trial.
Rafe: Me too. Drinks soon? We haven’t been out in a while.
Leslie: Sounds good
Rafe: Give Neil my regards.
Leslie: I will. Thanks again for the talk.

Rafe smiles at her as Leslie walks back to her car with thoughts of how Neil is doing at the hospital.

Lauren walks into Gina’s. Gina greets her.

Gina: Lauren it’s so nice to see you. You’re looking lovely as ever.
Lauren: Thank you Gina. You’re so sweet.
Gina: I didn’t recall seeing yours or Michael's name on the reservation list tonight.
Lauren: Oh, I won’t be dining with Michael tonight.
Gina: Oh,… well..
“She’ll be dining with me tonight Gina. The reservations I made earlier are for me and Lauren.”

Nick says walking out from behind Lauren.

Gina: Oh…

There is a moment of awkward silence as Gina takes in the scene of Lauren and Nick together. Gina wants to pry and ask questions but she remembers she’s running a business and would be improper in asking the duo what is going on between the two.

Gina: I’m sorry, right this way.

Lauren smiles at Nick as they then follow Gina to their table.

Across the way, Abby, sitting with Devon notices her half-brother Nick with Lauren.

Abby: Oh my gosh.
Devon: What’s the matter Abby?
Abby: Nick is here.
Devon: Ok and?
Abby: He’s here with Lauren.
Devon: Strange, are they dating now?

Dru with her arms around Lily walk into the hospital.

Dru: I know you didn’t feel like coming out but some of this fresh spring air will do you some good. And it will be good to be around family.
Lily: Mom I just want to find my kids.
Dru: I know Lily Belle. Paul has every man available on it. Later we are going to go out and put up flyers. We are being productive baby girl. We are going to find those twins.

They enter Nate’s room. Olivia smiles as she sees Dru.

Olivia: I’m so glad you here. It’s still kind of hard to believe you are back.
Dru: Yes I am thankful.

Olivia gives Lily a hug.

Olivia: I’m not going to ask how you are doing. I will say though Lily we are praying every day for the safe return of your twins.
Lily: Thank you.

Lily takes a seat next to Hillary.

Olivia: Let’s go outside so we can talk.
Dru: Ok girl.

Olivia turns to look at Lily and Hillary.

Olivia: We’ll be right outside.

Olivia and Dru enter the hall way.
Dru gives her sister another hug.

Dru: I’m so happy for you girl. Your son is coming around.
Olivia: Yes God has answered my prayers. I’m so thankful he is alive. And you are too. It’s so wonderful having you back.

Olivia gives Dru another hug as Dru hugs Olivia, she spots a woman walking into Neil’s room.

Dru: Liv who is that? I seen her here hanging around the night I came back.
Liv: Who?
Dru: The woman who just walked into Neil’s room.

Dru drags Olivia towards Neil’s room so Olivia can look through the window in the door to see which woman has just walked into Neil’s room.
Olivia looks in the window and can see Leslie holding Neil’s hand.

Dru: Now she holding my husband’s hand. What is going on Liv?

Olivia hesitates in telling Dru that Leslie is Neil’s girlfriend. She knows Dru will have a very strong and negative reaction.

Dru: Tell me Liv, who is that women holding my husband’s hand?

  1. OOOO I know Dru's not gonna take kindly to Leslie. I'm excited to see where that goes. Great ending yet again!

So! I loved the action at Gina's. Lauren being seen having dinner with Nick (good direction there), and Devon and Abby dealing with Roxanne. I love all the layers to these stories.

I also appreciate that you're using your minority characters so well. They're layered and real, and their history is being well-used. Seeing Lily and Liv and Dru again being used properly is a treat to me.

Dru and Liv reconnecting is great to see. I wish they had a moment like that on TV. Additionally, Nate is close to waking up. I can't wait to see what goes down when he does, especially since now Hillary knows something to do with Roxanne is happening. Her insecurity is activated. Let's see how that plays out.

Spencer is thirsty. YIKES! He should know no woman's gonna go for that sleazy shit. Leslie was right to get out of that mess! Third leg! LOL.

You've done a lot of great stuff these last few episodes. I loved every bit of it. You're evolving as a writer, and your work is much stronger for it. KEEP IT UP :D

  2. I love it I know it's going to be juicy drama. Bringing Dru back in the picture makes me wonder about Shelia and if she is dead or alive, and the beef between Roxanne and Hilary is going to be off the chain. Good read! :-)

  3. This episode has the right amount of drama and humor (with Spencer and Dru)..

I'm not liking Roxanne right now. She has emasculated Devon from the beginning and now she asks him for help, and she gets angry when he refuses. She needs to take those classes and sit down...Devon was right to refuse her.

Nick and Lauren are going to be very interesting and I wonder what direction you are taking them storywise. I liked their introduction and how Devon and Abby were talking about them. Realistic.

And good cliffhanger at the end with Dru wanting to know who Leslie is to Neil. She is about to find out..

I can tell this episode was about Roxanne and her taking the anger management classes. Very tight and focused...great job!!! Keep it up!!
