199: Ryder's Stranger Things

On Verdon Lou Rd., a road that has no outlet sits the house Ryder is squatting in and now providing shelter to Mary Carter.

Ryder: No one will find you here Mary. This is a run down side of GC that no one ever talks about.
Mary: I don’t know if that’s a good thing or bad.
Ryder: You seem so ungrateful. I came to save you from Daisy. She’s looking for you.
Mary: Because she thinks I slept with Daniel, the father of her child.
Ryder: Well you did.
Mary: I know that Ryder. And look at what became of it. I’m pregnant.

Mary says as she rubs her baby bump.

Ryder: Well the baby may not be Daniels. It could be Scotty’s or Noah’s.
Mary: As mother wanted.
Ryder: It’s part of the plan. Sheila wanted you to sleep with all three men in order to have another insurance policy in case things went south. Mothers ultimate goal was to free the Carter name from any and all crimes.
Mary: And mother sure has a long list of them.
Ryder: If you have Scotty’s child, mother will be happy as it will torment Lauren for life. If you are carrying Noah’s child, then we have the Newman’s and we can use this baby as leverage with Victor. A Newman baby for our freedom. Then if its Daniel’s, mother says it would be revenge on Phyllis for keeping Lucy away from Daisy and that look alike Phyllis thing that got Aunt Suga killed. I know mom has never gotten over losing her sister.
Mary: The sounds of all this makes me sick. Like my love box is some heavy duty worker for revenge. This is so awful. I don’t know if I want to go through all of this.
Ryder: Well it’s too late now. Sheila set all this in motion over a year ago. We have to continue on even though she’s dead. You are carrying our ticket to freedom.
Mary: It’s my child, not a thing!... Mother should have left some money for better accommodations for us. I want to soak in the tub and paint my nails.
Ryder: Your starting to piss me off Mary! I went through a lot to get us this house.
Mary: You mean haunted house.
Ryder: So first things first, we need to get Scotty on board with this baby. I already know Lauren is questioning your identity. I don’t think there is any way we can prolong this Vandalynn character any longer. It’s just time to confess to Scotty and his mother who you are. It’s time to stick it to Lauren. That way we can throw Daisy off your trail and she won’t be so adamant in trying to prove that you slept with Daniel.
Mary: I like the plan and I can get Scotty to get us some better accommodations.
Ryder: No just you. I’m staying here. I have plans.
Mary: Plans?
Ryder: Just worry about you and Scotty. I’m going out to find us some scraps to eat and to keep my ear to the ground as far as Scotty and Lauren go. Tomorrow it will be time to let them know who you are. We gotta keep the plan moving.

Ryder walks into his room as Mary watches him.

Mary: Ryder has no soul or heart. My brother has lost it. He’s treating my baby like it’s a thing and not human. But anything to get the hell out of here, I’ll tell Lauren and Scotty a million times over I’m Sheila’s daughter to be out of here.
She thinks to herself.

All of a sudden,

Mary hears the Halloween theme song being played from a very loud radio in Ryder’s room.

Mary: What in the hell is he doing?

Mary gets chills going up her spine as she is a little bit scared at the whole scenario, the music, Ryder being creepy and this dark vacant house that has a weird chemical smell to it. She backs up into a corner and digs in her purse to see if she has a weapon of some kind in case she may need it.

Mary: Ryder is crazy.

The Jail
Daisy slowly opens a door that has a “Meeting in Session” sign on it. She doesn’t want to make any sounds as to not interrupt what is happening. She takes a seat and sees Roxanne walk up to the podium.
Daisy puts her hand in the air and waves at Roxanne. Roxanne smiles and waves back. Seeing Daisy gives Roxanne, a sense  of calming comfort. She takes a deep breath and adjusts the microphone.

Roxanne: Hello everyone, I’m Roxanne Parker and I’m an angry woman.
Crowd: Hi Roxanne!

Daisy gives Roxanne a thumbs up.
Some time has passed as Roxanne has told her story.

Roxanne: So, I pledge to be happier person. Thank you.

Everyone gives her a round of applause as Roxanne steps down from the mic and podium.
Daisy stands up and gives the loudest response by clapping over everyone else and whistling. Roxanne walks over to Daisy and gives her a big hug.

Roxanne: It’s so good to see you. Thank you for showing your support.
Daisy: I’m proud of you. You finally completed your anger management classes.
Roxanne: I  did and I’m so happy. I have a new outlook on life. I’m not going to use anger.
Daisy: Well there are some things making me angry.
Roxanne: Well I’m free now so let’s go grab drinks and catch up.
Daisy: Sounds good to me.

They leave the jail.

The Chancellor Mansion, Phillips Room
Phillip comes out of his bathroom after vomiting. He’s sweating and anxious. He begins to pace his room.
Phillip makes a call on his cell phone.
“Rufus, damn it answer the phone! I need a hit!  I’m going through withdrawal. Call me as soon as you get this.”

He hangs up the phone and throws his phone on the bed in frustration. Then he hears commotion and loud voices coming from down stairs.
He walks over to his window and looks down in the drive and sees Nina’s car is back.

Phillip: Damn the last thing I need, the family seeing me like this.

Phillip’s cell phone rings and he rushes over to the bed and answers it.

Phillip: It’s about damn time… I do not like waiting like this. I’m paying good money here. ..I need to get out this house I don’t want to see my family… Ok I’ll meet you at Hungry Hearts.”

Phillip smiles and hangs up. He grabs his wallet and sneaks out the servant’s entrance.

Just as Nina and Chance walk into Phillip’s room.

Nina: He’s not here.

Chance looks in the bathroom.

Chance: No.
Nina: Now where could he be?

Downstairs,
Esther goes into the kitchen to make tea.

Karynn is sitting with Mackenzie on the couch.

Karynn: I’m so sorry for your loss Mac. Your father was very nice to me and my brother when we arrived in town. But sadly, Karl is no longer with us.

Mac looks at a tearful Karynn.

Mac: Oh, I’m sorry Karynn.

Mac gives her another embrace as they both cry together holding one another.

Karynn: But it will get better. We were blessed for the time we had with Brock and Karl.

They are both resting in peace.

Mac: Along with grandma. Together.
Karynn: Yes, along with my sister Katherine. Now chubby Nina says you are the new executor of the will?
Nina: Despicable. Already hounding over the will. You may not be mourning but I’m sure Mac is.

Nina says coming down the stairs having over heard Karynn’s question.

Karynn: Life is too short. There is nothing wrong with asking if Mac, my great grandniece about the will. We need to get this thing rolling. It’s been months since my sister died and damn it I need money now that Karl’s money is gone.
Nina: Because he’s dead.
Karynn: Thanks Nina. I already knew that. No one is going to support me but me so just step aside and go help Esther put some snacks together for the will reading. I’m sure the guest will be here soon.
Mac: Correct. I’ve sent all the correspondences out.
Nina: Someone has to put a stop to this. Karynn cannot go on representing the Chancellor name in such a low-class manor.
Karynn: Nina you and I are headed down an ugly path. I’m warning you. And let’s not forget you married into the Chancellor family, I share the same blood with Katherine. It’s good she was my sister and after all these years of being forgotten about, like I said from day one when I arrived, I’m here to collect. So, scurry on into the kitchen, Mac here is hungry.

Nina is in shock at Karynn’s bold tone and can’t even utter a response. She turns around and walks into the kitchen like a puppy with its tail between it’s legs.

Lauren’s Penthouse

Lauren and Scotty walk in, with Lauren throwing her purse on the sofa and Scotty goes straight to his room closing the door behind him.
Lauren pours herself a glass of wine. She can only think of her time with Sheila Carter as she has another flash back.

“I will not let this happen. I don’t know how I am going to stop it but Mary will not be having Scotty’s child. We just have to find her and find out why  she set us up.”
Lauren thinks to herself. She opens her phone and sends a text to Nick.
“I need a friend and a good drink.

She gets a response.

“See you at the GCAC in 30 minutes."

Lauren grabs her purse and jacket and leaves.

Meanwhile Scotty is laying on his stomach across his bed. He’s texting Kirkland of Bay City.

“I’m going 2 b a freaking dad. Vandalynn set me up.

Kirk responds “Scotty you have some tuff choices 2 make. What about your secret lifestyle. Your bringing a child into this world.”
Scotty: I can’t think. This is all so much 4 me. I’m gonna clear my head. TTYL."

Scotty hits the send button.
Scotty gets up and leaves the penthouse looking to clear his head from all the drama and emotion.
He tries to call Mary but it goes to voicemail.

Scotty: Damn it Mary where are you!?

He wonders to himself as he heads into midtown GC enjoying the cool evening.

Ryder’s Haunted House on Verdon Lou Rd
The scary music stops. Mary is standing in the corner of the living room. She doesn’t know what may happen next or what other scary surprises lurk her way but she is still trying to find something, anything that she may be able to use a weapon just in case she has too as Ryder gets stranger and stranger.
Ryder comes out his room and Mary screams.
Ryder rushes over to her and covers her mouth as he stands behind her. Mary is now panicking.

Ryder: Calm down Mary. This isn’t be good for the baby. I’m going to move my hand and you promise you will stop screaming? I don’t want anyone to hear you.

Mary nods her head.
She looks at her brother. She reaches out to touch his face but he pulls back.

Mary: What is going on?
Ryder: I like to scare people.  I scared you real good. I like feeling power and control over people. Besides I need to hide my identity. Especially from Daisy in case I see her lurking about town, she’ll put everything together if she saw my real face. This is  how I’m going to get our scraps of food tonight. I’m also gonna look for Scotty and get the vibe there and report back to you.
Mary: Scotty is probably worried sick about me. Tomorrow the truth will come out. I will tell Lauren and Scotty both that I am Mary Carter…

She rubs her baby bump.

Mary:  Well baby and I are kind of hungry.
Ryder: Ok, I’ll get moving then.
Mary: Ryder wait a minute. I’ve been meaning to ask you, what is that chemical smell in here, are you doing some cleaning?
Ryder: I don’t smell anything. Maybe your mistaken it for the gas I had to put in the power generator. Be back soon.

Ryder grabs a black bag and then leaves the house.

Mary: Ryder has to smell that. I know what gasoline smells like and this is not gas…Maybe now would be a good time to look around.

Mary tries to decide which part of the darkened abandoned house she should begin to search. Maybe she will come up with something that will explain this never seen before side of Ryder. She decides to start with his room. She slowly walks over to it, nervous as to what is on the other side of the door. Whatever it is, it can’t be good considering Ryder was playing Halloween music  and he came out his room with his face painted. She opens the door and screams in horror at what she sees. She jumps back and falls to the floor moving away from the door as if she is trying to get away from something that is after her.

  1. Now we getting to something interesting. I wonder what's in there. Mary better be careful that that fall to the ground doesn't affect her pregnancy!

I liked the suspense and build of this episode, especially in Ryder's spooky squat house. Good stuff there and a great cliffhanger.

Elsewhere, Lauren is still trying to figure out her next steps. I hope she can step up and figure out a way to foil whatever plans the Carters have for her and Scotty. Scotty still reaching out to Kirkland, but finding little comfort. He's too confused and in denial to know what way to go or deal with the matter at hand. I feel a collision course coming between him and Phillip.

I really liked the Karynn stuff this time again. I like Karynn when she's dry and direct. You can really see her as Kay's sister at times like this, and the writing is strong for her. I can see her growing into a power player in due time. Great stuff there.

I'm also curious about what will transpire with Daisy and Roxanne. This could be a very good scene in the next episode between them. Can't wait for that.

All in all, a very nice episode. I wanna know what Mary's running from now! Oooo!

  2. Lots going on here...let's get to it...

MARY/RYDER: Ryder is truly strange. He takes his pregnant big sister to an abandoned house and plays songs from scary movies. I like though how you are showing us Ryder and what his character is. However, I do believe he is trying to protect Mary, is in own twisted way, from the upcoming wrath of Daisy

PHILIP: He continues his drug habit. I wonder what trouble he's going to get into with Rufus this time.

LAUREN/SCOTTY: Scotty is going to be a dad and it clearly has thrown him into a whirlwind. This is bringing up memories for Lauren. LOVE the flashbacks you are showing us with Lauren and Sheila, as Sheila continues to haunt Lauren through Sheila's children and Scotty. This is giving me insight into why Lauren is hellbent on not letting Mary Carter ruin Scotty's life...AND she's about to go have a drink with Nick. Good movement with that.

KARYNN/MAC: You have continued to grow this character. She started as a cigarette smoking, beer drinking backwoods woman, who fried hot dogs on a shopping cart. Now, I see where she's been. She's been abused, cheated on, abandoned by her sister. She spent years taking care of her brother, and was torn up when he passed away. And now, she's focused. She's here to collect as she said. Nice to see her bond with Mac as her greatniece.

200 IS NEXT!!! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT YOU GOT IN STORE!!! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!
